Fixing the Math Problem
Do you wish that your school's math and engineering departments would work together to ensure that students could get the math they needed? (Or your math and IT or trades departments?) Donna Milgram has had success in facilitating a collaborative action plan between these departments both as part of the NSF WomenTech Project and as a contractor for community colleges.  The following experience could be yours:

"The Math class idea finally got sorted out after an all-faculty retreat.
We got to explain that we wanted BOTH options, and that those who wish to transfer or may want to transfer would be encouraged to take College Algebra. For those who have no intention of transferring, this math class is based on computer fundamentals, with no prerequisites and is taught by our faculty. With that in mind, we partnered with the Math dept. (WOW) and came together to get the class approved. So what started out as a simple facilitation on your part, blossomed into a much needed partnership between the Academics and the Vocational faculty. GOOD JOB!"
                   - Geri Hertel, CIS Instructor, Olympic College, Bremerton, WA
