"The LEEAT provided a comprehensive, objective look at the Durham Police Department's policies and practices with regard to hiring, retention, and treatment of our employees. It afforded me, as a newly-hired Chief of Police, to receive honest feedback from my employees about issues that affected their work environment. Changes implemented as a result of the LEEAT improved our recruitment and hiring of female officers and improved the overall environment within the Police Department. The LEEAT also provided insight into issues affecting women's decisions to compete or not compete for promotion. We are using that information to put practices in place that will ensure that all officers are afforded opportunities to grow within the agency and help them to see upward mobility as a positive, achievable goal."
Chief Teresa Chambers Durham Police Department
"As Chief of the Albuquerque, New Mexico Police Department from 1994-1997 I had the opportunity to work closely with Donna Milgram and IWITTS on this groundbreaking effort. The LEEAT Tools helped our Department accurately assess the current work environment and make changes that greatly improved our ability to recruit, retain and promote women officers. The proof is in the numbers. Our ability to attract qualified women to our Academy and retain them as officers on our Department allowed us to increase their representation considerably in a short time."

"Police departments have been struggling for some time now to recruit top quality women into the business, to make sure they are treated equitably once hired and promoted in accordance with their desire and skill level. This set of assessment tools provides invaluable information and guidance in accomplishing these tasks. The Law Enforcement Environmental Assessment Tools notebook is an easy to useproduct that allows a chief executive to take the temperature of his/her agency: are we doing all that we should be? What is the climate in the agency towards woman? A great tool, easily used with in-house resources."
Chief Michael Berkow South Pasadena (CA) Police Department
Our Department was a field test site for the LEEAT and in particular the information we learned from our Academy Assessment has helped us to make positive changes. We now average all women on APD above the 80th percentile in physical standards. We can attribute this to changes that we have made in recruiting (providing pre-academy orientation(s) and workout programs) and teaching classes at the academy that deal with health, nutrition and balancing the academy and family life. Our current academy class has women as two of the top three in best physical condition.
