2. What did you like best about the training?

    • Presentation and class participation.
    • Good group discussions.
    • The analysis of sexual harassment case studies. The case studies were thought provoking and generated valuable discussion.
    • The legal case studies presented gave great insight to national trends.
    • Good video scenarios.
    • The case analysis. Please use again.
    • Application of guidelines in working case studies. Having Sharon Walton explain department related issues.
    • Recent court cases. Sample case studies. Discussions on issues.

    • Question Answer Session.
    • The recognition of sexual harassment. How to deal with it. The options we need to do.

3. What would improve this training?

    • If it were extended a day or two in order to allow in depth discussion of all topics.
    • More time spent on scenarios and discussion.
    • Over 2 day period to foster more discussion.
    • More time for each block of instruction for further discussion.
    • More review of department guidelines.
    • More case studies directly involving APD policies - APD scenarios (not necessarily true).
    • More clarification from APD legal.
    • Use actual APD cases.
    • The training needs to be more comprehensive. One suggestion would be to integrate the training with the use of positive and negative discipline. A more thorough evaluation of case law, department policy and supervisor responsibilities would be helpful as well.
    • More visual aides, more actual occurrences within our department.
    • Definition of sexual harassment. Aspects of sexual harassment not normally considered.
    • More video.
    • Look at the bigger picture, involve racial issues.
    • Do summaries of court cases instead of issues of punitive/compensatory damages, legal issues, etc. Too difficult for most people to weed out the other issues from the facts of the case relevant to the discussion. Summaries really help.
    • I think it was fine the way it was presented.

4. What did you learn?

    • I.D. and deal effectively with sexual harassment.
    • Ways of identifying sexual harassment. Supervisory responsibility.
    • The different methods of detecting sexual harassment and how to effectively initiate investigations.
    • More about sexual harassment policies and procedures.
    • Sexual harassment is a serious issue in the workplace. Stop it as soon as you see it. Train to prevent it.
    • Better understanding of sexual harassment.
    • What is sexual harassment, how to handle, supervisory skills.
    • This is a difficult area and eight hours will not provide an individual with the confidence to deal with these situations.
    • A little more on what was expected by the Dept. and what issues and trends are happening in the nation.
    • Current trends and judicial decisions.
    • That there are not concrete ways to handle every situation -- common sense is still the safest way to resolve situations.
    • The subject is complicated.
    • Our nation as a whole, has a major problem with sexual harassment and more prevalent then we realize. What lines not to cross; when you enter into sexual harassment.

5. Was the Peace Officers video effective, should it be used in future workshops?

8. Other comments?

    • This topic should probably be presented in MOE or another venue where all personnel receive training.
    • I am glad I took the class. I am more enlightened and I will be more aware of these types of situations around me.
    • I would be interested in future classes and assisting in class presentations.
    • This training should be fully developed and implemented for all supervisory levels. The training needs to also address same sex harassment and harassment perpetrated by women. Although this training touched upon, it needs to be reinforced due to the dynamics of a changing workforce.
    • This workshop needed to be two days because of the amount of material covered.
    • The respect for, or consideration of, the "chain-of-command" needs to be re-thought, in my opinion. Deference to "chain-of-command" has no place in determining to act or not to act, regardless of whether the incident is related to sexual harassment or not related.
